Triund Trek Overview

Triund Trek, nestled between the Dhauladhar mountain and the Kangra Valley in Himachal Pradesh, offers a perfect escape to the heights of McLeodganj. This 9 km trek is a sought-after adventure, showcasing stunning scenery and thrills that surpass many high-altitude treks. The journey begins in the deodar forest, leading through rhododendrons and oak forests, making it a unique and rewarding experience.

Getting There…

Covering a 9-10 hour journey from Delhi to McLeodganj, I opted for a direct route from Manali to Dharamshala. A refreshing 5.3 km cab ride from Dharamshala to McLeodganj set the tone for the trek, with fresh air and melodious music in the background.

The Trek Begins…

After a night’s stay in McLeodganj, our 10 km trek started from BhagsuNag, the starting point of Triund. Opting for a challenging path, we encountered clear trails with large rocks, setting them apart from the typical forest routes. Despite being the off-season, the trail attracted a noticeable crowd, adding to the adventure.

Challenges Along the Way

Passing by the BhagsuNag waterfall, we ascended towards Triund, facing steep rocks. While some trekkers invested in trekking sticks for better support, we opted to tackle the ascent without them. The sight of the trail spiralling upwards through the mountain invoked a mix of excitement and trepidation.

Essentials for the Journey

To tackle the trek successfully, it’s crucial to carry sufficient water, energy drinks, bars, snacks, and fruits. The cost of food and drinks increases as you ascend, making pre-packed supplies a wise choice. Fortunately, fresh water is available at the trek’s starting point, eliminating the need to purchase expensive water bottles.

Reaching Campsites

Despite the off-season disadvantages, we pressed on, reaching the first campsite for a much-needed break. The second campsite brought relief, offering a chance to rejuvenate amidst green grass and sunshine. The ascent to the third campsite, atop a steep and snowy mountain, proved challenging but rewarding.

As we couldn’t reach the summit before nightfall, we camped at the third site. The sunset views were enchanting, setting up our tents with a breathtaking backdrop. Sharing stories around the bonfire with fellow trekkers added to the experience, and the night view of glowing cities below was a beautiful sight.

Despite not reaching the summit, waking up to a sunrise from the mountaintop felt like a dream come true. The panoramic view of snowy mountains and glowing cities below made the entire journey worthwhile. It was a reminder that there’s much more to discover and appreciate in the universe, providing a sense of peace and fulfilment.

My first trek to Triund was a rollercoaster of challenges and beauty, leaving me with memories of a lifetime. If you’re seeking an adventure that combines stunning landscapes with a sense of accomplishment, the Triund Trek in Himachal Pradesh is a must-try.
